Εχουν περάσει σχεδόν 40 χρόνια από τότε που ο Στάνλεϊ Κιούμπρικ που μας ταξίδεψε στους ανατριχιαστικούς διαδρόμους του ξενοδοχείου Overlook με την κινηματογραφική μεταφορά του κλασσικού μυθιστορήματος του Στίβεν Κινγκ «Η Λάμψη», άλλα σύντομα θα ετοιμάσουμε ξανά τις βαλίτσες μας για ένα ακόμα ταξίδι στο στοιχειωμένο αυτό ξενοδοχείο.
Ο Μάικ Φλάναγκαν, ο οποίος μας είχε δώσει πριν λίγο καιρό άλλη μια υπέροχη μεταφορά βιβλίου του Κινγκ με το τίτλο «Το Παιχνίδι του Τζέραλντ» στο Netflix, έχει αναλάβει ένα δύσκολο έργο για αρκετούς μιας και μεταφέρει την συνέχεια της «Λάμψης» στη μεγάλη οθόνη με τίτλο «Doctor Sleep». Στην ταινία πρωταγωνιστεί ο Γιούαν ΜακΓκρέγκορ ως ο Ντάνι, δεκαετίες αφότου βρέθηκε με τον μπαμπά του στο στοιχειωμένο ξενοδοχείο. Ο Ντάνι δεν φωνάζει πια redrum, redrum, αλλά έχει αντιμετωπίσει τις παιδικές εμπειρίες του βουτώντας στο αλκοόλ. Οταν ο Ντάνι σταματά το ποτό, οι «ιδιαίτερες» δυνάμεις του επανέρχονται και τις αξιοποιεί βοηθώντας ετοιμοθάνατους ασθενείς σ' ένα άσυλο. Εκεί θα συναντήσει την Αμπρα Στόουν, ένα κοριτσάκι μ' ένα επίσης ιδιαίτερο χάρισμα, το οποίο τη θέτει σε κίνδυνο.

Η ταινία ήδη προβλήθηκε και οι πρώτες αντιδράσεις έχουν κατακλείσει τα social media. Τελικά άξιζε η επιστροφή στο Overlook; Οι πρώτες κριτικές είναι θετικές ως αρκετά θετικές μιας καθώς εκθειάζουν τον Φλάναγκαν και την προσέγγισή του στο αρχικό υλικό, λέγοντας μάλιστα πως είναι η καλύτερη μεταφορά βιβλίου του Κινγκ μετά από το «Shawshank Redemption». Αλλά υπάρχουν κάποιοι οι οποίοι – άδικα – την συγκρίνουν με την ταινία του Κιούμπρικ, χαρακτηρίζοντάς ένα αχρείαστο σίκουελ. Αλλά όλοι συμφωνούν για την υπέροχη ερμηνεία της Ρεμπέκα Φέργιουσον, η οποία παίζει την κακιά Ρόουζ.
Η ταινία «Doctor Sleep» θα βγει στις ελληνικές αίθουσες στις 7 Νοεμβρίου.

When I interviewed Flanagan, he made it clear that he knows some of the film's choices will divide people. And yes, there are elements I struggled with. But when DOCTOR SLEEP works, which is most of the time, it works. It's a far better depiction of King's voice than IT.

#DoctorSleep is pleasantly surprising, with noteworthy performances especially from Kyliegh Curran as Abra. Although the film does lean into self-referential The Shining references a bit too much for my taste, it is one of the more cohesive Stephen King adaptations.

#DoctorSleep works best when it's sticking to Stephen King's novel. The moment it starts trying to recreate elements of Kubrick's SHINING, it stumbles a bit. Still, Flanagan nails the emotional elements (no surprise there). And Rebecca Ferguson owns the entire movie.
