Για όσους ακόμη δεν το γνωρίζουν, μια ταινία παίρνει τον τίτλο fresh στο Rotten Tomates όταν το ποσοστό που προκύπτει μετά από τον υπολογισμό του μέσου όρου των κριτικών της είναι από 75% και πάνω.
Για τις ταινίες που βγαίνουν σε ευρεία διανομή χρειάζονται 80 κριτικές και για όσες βγαίνουν σε περιορισμένο κύκλωμα (πιο καλλιτεχνικές, δηλαδή) χρειάζονται 40 κριτικές. Και στις δύο περιπτώσεις χρειάζονται πέντε «τοπ» κριτικοί που για την περίπτωση του Rotten Tomatoes είναι κάποιος από εφημερίδα μεγάλης κυκλοφορίας (New York Times) ή site όπως π.χ το Salon.com ή το site του CNN.
