“Higuita”: a teaser trailer paves the way for The Boy’s upcoming film
It’s been six years since The Boy (Alexander Voulgaris’ stage name) made his last film, “Pink”, and we cant’ wait for his impending silver screen comeback.
In reality, The Boy never receded from the public eye, he simply chose to focus on music until it was time to make a new film. His discography includes three albums with his former band “Mary and the Boy”, as well as four highly personal solo releases.
His third upcoming feature, a totally independent production enigmatically titled “Higuita”, is almost in the can. According to the few morsels of information provided by the press release, the film focuses on a group of people who choose to go into self-imposed exile on the island of Makronisos in order to protect themselves from 'The Afflicted'. 37 years later, we witness the consequences of their decision. Six people, surrounded by the remnants of civilization, wander around aimlessly, still holding on to the roles once assigned to them, while madness drives them to extinction.
The Boy takes on multiple roles as director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor and composer, while sound and costume design come courtesy of “starlinescircle” – whoever that might be!
“Higuita” stars Argyris Thanasoulas, Ioanna Stavropouou, Giannis Laspias, Dafni Manousou, Leonardo Sfontouris, Angeliki Karistinou and The Boy, as the all-important narrator.
The film is in the final stages of post-production, aiming to be released sometime in the next few months. The first screening (as a work in progress) is scheduled for February 7-8, within the framework of the New Independent Greek Cinema Weekend, organized by cultural multi-space Six d.o.g.s.
