The big winner of the 49th Karlovy Vary Film Festival is George Ovashvili’s ‘Corn Island’, a co-production of Georgia, Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Kazakhstan. The film takes place by the Inguri river, located at the border of Georgia with Abkhazia and tells the story of a middle aged farmer and his granddaughter and the magic of nature. ‘Corn Island’ won the Crystal Globe for Best Film and a prize of 25,000 USD.
